Voluntary christmas card example.

Image
This shows an example of a range of Christmas cards I have designed and sold for a local crafts business I am involved in. I used card and used either a black fine liner and water. I used a sketchy and 'artsy' style to the cards, to show an interesting and perhaps to provide a more handmade element to the cards. I enjoyed this as I feel proud when seeing people appreciating my work, especially on a level enough to buy my designs.

Voluntary logo.

Image
This shows a logo I designed for my college for the smoothie bar business. I was given a brief to work against and designed an idea that was chosen over many others. The logo was originally designed using a simple drawing using a felt tip. I then used this basic design to create a more refined and usable logo using Adobe Illustrator. This logo is now used on many things such as aprons and the cups.

Developed Digital Snitterjipe

Image
This shows a further development of my Snitterjipe, I used my drawings and sketches to have a main idea. I then used Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create a digital illustration. Using the pen tool for the shape of the face, and a drawing tablet for the 'mane' like feature and teeth. For this, I used a simple and clean cut style, with white negative space as the outlines. I think this creates a much more animated and cartoon like character due to the flat colour and simple shapes.

Developed ideas on The Snitterjipe.

Image
This shows a developed and more recent ideas page of the Snitterjipe. This page helped towards my decision on what direction I am following to create my creature. I decided I liked this sketches feature more than the others, following a more cartoon like and animated theme, I think the large facial features and 'mane' like element added to my decision. I used a black fine liner to firstly drw the sketch but also to build up the shapes and layer lines to show a more detailed and refined drawing.

First idea pages.

Image
This shows my preliminary sketches and ideas of what The Snitterjipe looks like, based on the basic description in the poem. I explored many variations of the creature, with different animal like features and shapes etc. I used a black fine liner pen ad drew in a quick way to show movement and my initial first reactions to the poem.

Hand drawn comic strips.

Image
This shows my first attempt of sketching a comic based on the poem for 'The Snitterjipe project'. After researching and learning about many different elements and types of comics. I used a black fine liner to firstly draw the basic shape and layout of my comic strip, I then drew the basic scene and ideas to represent the poem and my ideas. After this, I added the text to complete the comic strip and show a more in depth idea of layout etc.

Positive/negative typography.

Image
This shows an experimental page for type. I used multiple coloured tissue paper and tore them into strips. I then used glue to place and layer these onto a piece of card to create an interesting and colourful piece. I then cut the shape of the letter out, this lead to a positive and negative version of the same letter.

Experimental typography.

Image
This shows two of my experimental pages. I used many different techniques and media For example, for the first one, I used different coloured acrylic paint on card and created a stencil of a letter to then create a negative space for the letter. On the second image, I used lots of small letter magnets and put them together to create one overall large letter 'Z'. I also used a black fine liner pen and water to create the letter 'P'.

Logo idea and development.

Image
These show the logo development and ideas page using my initials 'BJ'. I experimented using both colour and black marker pens. I decided to use a flowing and simple, black and white logo in my final piece to stand out and look memorable for my business.

The Type and Letter Project.(Final Piece)

Image
This shows my final piece for 'The Type and Letter Project'. I created a business card for my graphic design business 'Brooke's Graphics'. The first image being the front and the second being the back. I used Adobe Photoshop to create the final outcome, drawing both the logo and the pictograms, as well as using the text tool to show the information and displaying all element together, taking space and layout into consideration.

Logo idea and development.

Image
This shows one of my idea and development pages for the logo for the brand 'T'. I used a black fine liner to create many variations of a logo, experimenting with drawings and type. After this page, I did further development of my logo and decided to use a more simple logo, using the simple letter 'T' within a circle like shape.

Character idea and development.

Image
This shows an ideas and development page of a character for my tea brand/box. I used a black fine liner pen to create multiple ideas with different elements such as dot work etc. I decided not to use a character for my final outcome as I felt it wouldn't contribute or work well with a high quality product/brand.

The Tea project (final piece)

Image
These show my final piece for 'The Tea Project'. I designed the brand and packaging for a new tea brand called 'T' based on the company 'Taylors Of Harrogate'. My tea box aim was to have a handmade and high quality feel to it. I think I achieved this through the handmade and 'artsy' imagery, as well as extra elements such as the ribbon and the cut out 'window' at the back.

Natural Form prints.

Image
This shows some prints I created of flowers for 'The Toolkit Project'. I created black prints of flowers from primary source photos. For the first print, I used black carbon paper, I then used coloured Indian ink for a colourful, abstract background. I then created a monoprint of the same flower and used watercolour to add colour.

Artist copy/research.

Image
This shows a portrait created using the style of Jorge Alderete for 'The Toolkit Project'. I based this on the original idea and figure, using similar materials and techniques to create an overall effective piece with a similar style and outcome. I used a black marker pen (Sharpie) to draw the portrait and blue and green acrylic paint for the bold, colourful shapes placed over the face.

Mixed media portraits.

Image
This shows an original portrait of my younger brother for 'The Toolkit Project'. I used blue ink, water and highlighter pens to create the actual portrait. I then scanned this into the computer and used Adobe Photoshop to edit and add filters to the image to create different effects and outcomes.

Experimental/development page for my final piece.

Image
This shows an ideas page for my final piece for 'The Toolkit Project'. When deciding on my final piece idea, I drew some preliminary ideas for the potential look for the final piece outcome and my initial ideas. I used watercolours to create free looking, colourful and artistic looking perfume bottles. I then used a black fine liner to make the shape of the bottles stand out more and show another element that I wanted in my final piece.

Line drawing development work on perfume bottles.

Image
This shows a development page from my sketch book of 'The Toolkit Project'. I decided to base my final piece on perfume, therefore I created a page of observational drawings based on perfume bottles with varied shapes etc. For this page, I used a black fine liner pen to sketch the shape, I then added more lines to show a sense of depth and shape through a build up on line and the direction of them.

The Toolkit Project (Final Piece).

Image
This shows the final outcome of 'The Toolkit Project.' For my final piece, I created a colourful background using watercolours and lots of water to create a free flowing and abstract effect. I then, used a black fine liner pen and drew a free looking perfume bottle based on a study of them and similar looking things that I researched, including artists who work in a similar way. I then added observational drawings and paintings of flowers. I included a range of flowers and colours to make them blend in and match the overall feel and idea of the piece.
